HORSE RACING TERM
Scratch
A scratch is a horse pulled from a race before it runs — for injury, track condition, trainer's choice, or the vet's call. Scratches matter because they change the pace: losing the only early speed reshapes the whole race. Always re-check the pace scenario after a key scratch.
