HORSE RACING TERM
Longshot
A longshot is a horse at high odds that the crowd has dismissed. Most longshots lose — but because the payoff is large, you only need to be right occasionally for them to be profitable, if the price is longer than the horse's true chance (an overlay). Trip trouble and hidden pace angles are where live longshots hide.
